Project description

Location: sydney

The Epping to Chatswood Rail Line (originally a part of the Parramatta Rail Link) in the northern suburbs of Sydney, Australia, connects the suburbs of Epping on the Northern line to Chatswood on the North Shore line. The completed 13 km underground line includes three stations: North Ryde, Macquarie Park and Macquarie University. With GHD Pty Ltd, Peter Wilkinson provided design management services as part of a Design Joint Venture with Parsons Brinkerhoff to Thiess Hochtieff Joint Venture constructors. Construction of ECRL commenced in November 2002 and comprised a driven railway consisting of two tunnels and three fully mined stations. The tunnels were constructed using tunnel boring machines, with a section underneath the Lane Cove River being constructed by the cut and cover method.
