In 2013 Sydney's light rail system was transferred from private ownership under a Public Private Partnership to NSW Government ownership and control. Consequently, Transdev Pty Ltd as operators of the Light Rail system renegotiated a new services contract with Transport for NSW. Peter Wilkinson was retained to manage Phase 1 of Transdev’s business transition to the new contractual arrangements. This transition was undertaken in parallel with a number of other key projects including decommissioning of the Sydney Monorail system, delivery and acceptance of a new Light Rail Vehicle fleet and completion of an Inner West network extension to Lilyfield. Peter provided a necessary additional management resource, maintained the organisation’s focus on key activities and critical timeline and completed the activities in a manner that recognised the stressful environment in which the team was operating.
